Course Description
This course addresses medical-surgical principles related to health and health disruption in adults, with an emphasis on the care of older adult patients. Principles addressed include recognizing signs and symptoms, applying nursing interventions and utilizing pharmacological knowledge to give high quality nursing care. Medical-surgical issues will be presented incorporating the three levels of prevention and intervention (primary, secondary, and tertiary care). This course will prepare students to safely manage the care of ethnically, culturally, & socially diverse patient populations in the acute medical-surgical setting by means of the nursing process. Dr. Jean Watson's "Theory of Caring" serves as the framework for analyzing and managing the care of patients. Co-requisite: NUSA 292.
